Running Accomplishments:

Eden 10-miler 65:47

Half Marathon 1:26:17

5K 18:01

I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Sun nite-running not a complete habit yet, hate that wn I don't run I lose a day to maintain/grow fitness, but ran to Park and golfed 1/2 course then ran canal road to 6200 S and up to homestead. Felt great cruise after 3 days rest! Gearing towards Winter Series 5K, visualization of good speed and enjoyment of strength endurance I naturally have. 5m

Mon-after w/o w/ B, calf-raises, squats, sit-ups, push-ups, leg-ups, downward dog arm raises, 2 sets, ran in old black ball shoes, maybe unwise, felt flat-footed, calves complaining, but out canal to Baptist church, down 3600 to hopped fence canal and meandering back. 4.5m

Tues-after great piano afternoon at Bob's house. Found new trail out canal BJH neighborhoods. Felt great, putting in the time to run good longer runs http://www.mapmyrun.com/workout/470557833

Wed-after Winter Retail ran on Bonneville shoreline, just easy, icy fun. Snow melted all around icy trail but not on trail! Too much traffic. 40 min, 3.5 m maybe

Thur-no running, got pretty good sleep, resting for race, 4 on 4 ball, short, ended early, then played piano, found great melody for Immortal Invisible, also found LDS hymnal of Schreiner melodies. He's a treasure trove of bad melodies! For me I can hear what I think is a better melody on every single one of his pieces! It was awesome. Sorry Schreiner lovers.

Fri- w/ P to park. Jogged, then once around Christy Hill, just getting my racing flats form feel. 1.5 m

Beautiful day, smoggy but I never really notice that breathing. Saw BK at start and we determined to run together. Ran 1.5 w/u and stretched. Started row 5, BK took off and I was 10 yards back. Feeling it out, not sure about pace, knew I was running faster than a month ago but holding back. Latched onto 2 girls and guys, Eleanor, Lisa?, Richard? At the mile one girl gave me the time, 6:12, I was surprised but felt great, my hamstrings could feel the work but I caught up to BK and cruised. Others seemed to latch onto me but we hit the turnaround and I came up to BK, he said, "Go get em," and I ramped up to where I could catch some. Girl in orange behind tall guy in yellow. I didn't pass them til after mile 2, paused a moment with them and then progressed. Breathing pretty hard but knew I had more. W/ 3/4 mile to go Richard passed me, then Eleanor passed us both. I know I could have closed harder but I was happy that at mile 3 I sprinted in and passed Richard. I probably should have looked behind me and realized all the people breathing down my neck. BK said even split would be 19:30 so I negative split.

I'm looking forward to the 10K. After all these years of racing, it's still crazy to me that I can still learn how to better pace a 5K. It's just such a tweaker race, I think I do a pretty good job of not starting out too fast, but I think I could get into my cruise and push it for longer, go for broke. We'll see how the 10K goes, separating the rec runners from the deliberate runners. Hoping to be a deliberate runner. My designation for that for myself is to break 40.

Ran out w/ BK to mile mark and back. Missed the raffle but got some goodies to go.

Overall, great race, LDR circuit, slctrack club, peace out. Soli Deo Gloria
