I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Played disc golf a few times, resting foot but I think finally recovering.
Tues- ball, won one game easily, showed new young kid how to uptempo and play, then against my nemesis let him get some easy threes, he does know when to pull the trigger, lost when old guy had to outgun young kid--who was usually open and shooting a few too many short threes.

Wed- rollerbladed with Hubert on Porter rockwell, complete loop to Draper canal and back, very nice, but hammys very sore next day, about an hour; no ball at 70th ward, drove all the way to S. Jordan where used to play near H's with the young athletic crew, found a group of 10, won first game easy showing hustle, missed a few before settling in, feeling great to run but overhustle at times with new crew, then played 4 on 4 ag 3 black guys, definitely over-hustled, but came into it with a few good lay-ups, missed an in-and-out 3 that would have won, instead came back from 20-16 down to tie and then lose a close one. Played w/ two heavier but steady guys and a glasses skinny hustler and almost pulled it off; ankle and top of foot tingly like there was damage but woke up the next day and the ball rehab made it better

Thu-biked w/ P to rents for Boaz' 1st b-day, biked home by self; for ball was wedding at 54th, drove around but no dice until went to 70th and played 2 on 2, let the smaller hairy guy score on some quick drives, almost pulled it off, played with bald guy who hadn't won at all, could get my shot off, but missed a few easy ones and missed some chances

Fri- biked to park, some discing and running, saw Chris and met some others, biked home

Ankle should be good for running again, will do that, my weight is creeping up to 180; don't really feel like a runner, more like a ball player who wants to run

Well said. I'm hoping that staying active is always a good thing. I'm not running as much as I'd like or can, but I'm still pretty close to my 5K PR, but the 10K is a race of truth, I'm hoping to be able to hang in on that one.
