I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Took a week off to rest my foot. Biked w Nate, taking Thorin to JRP past old house. 1hr, Thorin held up well. Once went NE on bike past police academy and Tracy's parents house, townhouse brick fence jump, back on 36th. 1:15

Didn't ball or disc for a week, foot feels better.

Tue - ball at Stake near Arcadia, lost most games against established guys, made a few shots but feeling it out, Speedy had back problems, had one shot from behind the backboard. 1.5

Wed - working hard, back, arms, wrist, hands get their (over?) workouts. Ball is a late night salve that warms me up again. No young general there, beat the guys with a less athletic but experienced crew, then lost to Dallin. I play him hard and I think he respects it, I'd tell him I like to play against him for the challenge but not for the losing. I did lose the ball twice when the first guy I get by sticks around, blind double team. Made a few backboard lazy spins, then had a game where I missed a 3, a fast break midrange and an easy layup putback. Got the guy to play 3s and 2s to 11 once, but they couldn't hack it.

Thu - 1/2 day at work getting Ron and Scott to work, on a day when Mark and Lee were busy with forklife, got them over doing TruckWash on the metal side. Went in a little later to Asian ball (they start at 830) and got half court games, guarded by handsy whacky shooter, talkative and slightly mental. Made a fouled layup, then went to the other side and was shooter Jess, then lost to Carlos and crew, then a full court that must not have been memorable. 1m

Disced a few but just walking, body feels tight and can't throw my farthest, I'll get some smooth throws and I know I still need the technique when I see middle-aged guys throwing like I can't.
