Half Marathon 1:26:17

5K 18:01

I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Did some warmup seeing old friends, Dale Cable, Crocs guy, speedy guys, BK. Felt pretty good, Dale said I looked fast. We started and Dale was ahead by about 10 yards, I was in NML but BK came up and we ran together. He and I close to a soccer girl stalked by 2 behind. 1st mile in 6:27, a little fast but it seemed fine. I was feeling good, biding my time for the turnaround. Talked to soccer girl on the way to the turnaround. They had the water on the wrong side so people were turning the wrong way but we corrected them. I picked it up and passed Dale and left my group.

Now I was 100 yards off Michells Simonaitis and 2 guys. The 2nd mile came quickly, 12:54, on good pace. I maintained the pace, which was really just even pace and was catching up. I noticed my right foot hurting in the arch. The last mile is always long but as we came around the turn and I had to work to catch a guy, about 1/4 mile from the finish. Saw Nate and really tried to pick it up the last .1, say P and Thorin and sprinted in breathing hard. Was happy with my time and the way I pushed myself--30 seconds faster than Thanksgiving?! Consistency is key.

Afterwards my foot was hurting so didn't cool down with Dale, got a massage and he diagnosed right hip flexor tightness, feels like I strained something in my foot, can't walk on it w/o pain. Will use crutches to try to heal it before work on Monday.

Assurance of salvation in Christ brings joy, endurance, patience, confidence, pacifies conscience, motivates obedience, overcomes death's fear. (JMac)
