I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Race of truth and tragedy.

Arrived at the race with the clan with not much time. Didn't really need a warm-up, at first had to run with Thorin til handed him off. BK caught up before first mile, 7:10, my plan was to go 3 and then go. Not a great plan, just wanting to overcome the disappointment of 10K. Should've gone 6 and go. BK up ahead in group of 4, found a partner to run with, Adam Murray, told him I was going to go at 3. Pushed through 4 and caught 2 guys, stuck with them til Adam caught up, went with him a little, was 34:10 at half, 7:20 pace. The 2 guys passed me and spoke of catching others, Adam proceeded to pass only 3 but ended 18 places ahead. I pushed to catch BK, and caught him before 6, then the wheels fell off. Last 3.3 in 8:05. Watched 10 guys catch me, tried to go with first one, but was just holding on. Glad i did this, just haven't done any tempos. Nothing like going backwards.

Pushed it home after Mel passed me, at 9 miles audibly grunted every other breath, felt better to do it all the way home. Tried precarious cool-down, now I'll rest my foot and try to get the kinks out.

Bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is a means of great gain, having promise for this life and the life to come.

But you went out and mixed it up anyway. Kudos!
