I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Fri- ran in morning around neighborhoods, tried to quiet dead-end dogs. Shakeout for race, ran w/ watch for first time, 30 min. or so.

Sat-Snow flurries and cold but lovely. Can remember running in snow before but now when it's on the roads. Slowed down each step but was still fun. Hope this race continues, but we need a new course. Ron almost shortened the course even more before I complained. Kennecott has taken more of the road so it ends just outside of town. Started by pavilion and was immediately in 3rd place. Ran w/ 2nd place guy until 1/2 mile in and asked him how fast his friend was, he told me 17 min. 5K so I didn't think I'd catch him, he probably gained on me just slightly, about 200 yards outside town. I really picked it up coming home, felt like I was cruising and it was hurting, slowed down on last hill around park but since it was such a shortened course not sure how much more I could have cruised if started my cruise earlier. Sprinted in to pavilion and high-fived winner. Was probably 1st master's runner. Great swag, my dad got an elk calendar, Phin got a Bumble-signed baseball. No church lunch for us but gave Neal $10 to give to them. Ran w/ Phin in the 2nd time, he can run if he wants too, he enjoys emulating me around the house so I hope he sees how great running is.
