I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Ran around Sugarhouse Park Friday morning while volunteering for Frontier Conf meet.  Course seemed a little slow, felt sluggish but enjoyed the aura of college running.  3

Sat  - Always love this race as it is one of only 2 races I know with coffee at the end.  Got a pretty good warm-up in and felt good about the race, chose not to run in racing flats since foot still bothering me, ran in my new Mizuno's that I've had for a week.  Got out nice and easy on the grass to the left of the cars, then joined the group.  Was running easy and wish I could find some running partners but no one seems to race my way, coming from behind.  I thought I saw a good girl in orange that I could stick with, but passed her at about 3/4 mile, then hit the mile, which according to one split timer was 6:30, I was a little surprised at it being that slow, but not really, I was hoping for closer to 19 minutes, but knew I was feeling pretty good. I picked it up mentally (really just maintaining pace) and started to pass patrons, including a group of 4 guys with a lead runner who was breathing staccotically and stuck with me for a little bit.  On the seconde lap I was starting to feel fatigued but looking back I don't feel I really pushed all that hard.  I was trying to catch a young runner and a peer who surprisingly stopped with 3/4 mile to go, I patted him on the back.  When we hit the start point my young friend took off down the road, which was probably what the course now was, a change, while I yelled at him and kept on the trail.  So I added about 25 yards but would have caught up to him, and to the peer who had surprisingly latched back on.  I caught the back of them and it was just as well that I didn't sprint with them as I had reasons for pulling off.  Cooled down a little, can't be to disappointed as I'm maintaining shape, just not advancing it. Really need to heal my foot. 5.5

Sun - ran from church to homestead and was surprised that it was only 30 minutes 4.5 Mon rest for foot
