I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Ran in my racing flats. Got there a little later than wanted to cuz trying to find a place to get cash, not happening. Started conservative and found myself quickly behind Jake K's wife. Didn't want to really expend the energy in the first mile to catch her, which was probably wise, as she put 15 seconds on me probably every mile. Would have been nice to know if being with her would have made a difference though. At times I felt like I was catching her on the downhills, but she glided on the uphills while I felt like a gas-guzzling SUV. In the 1st 3/4 mile Phin saw me and had to go to the bathroom. I caught him on another loop and asked a course director to help Phin. Crisis averted. He seemed most happy to continue playing on the playground.

When I looked behind me it seemed a light turqoise girl was stalking me, but I gapped her as I was getting gapped by wifey. I feel like I was putting a good hard effort in, though I definitely felt sluggish on the ups. Nice to run a X-country course though. Demetrio encouraged me in the last loop mile and I think I responded. I definitely stayed strong and pushed home to finish, but after a short hands on knees moment I recovered quite fast. I can definitely push more.

No cooldown as I had to go look for cash, failure again (in the BYU campus doldrums) but my waived $10 fee was recovered by winning $10 for Masters. I probably gapped 4th place as much as I was gapped by 2nd. Sasha 18:43, Mark 19:30, me.

Then fun drive home, a quick stop at Chic-filet, then drop of P man and to work I go. What a life.

Rom. 10:6 If by works then it is no longer by grace, and if by grace it is no longer by works.
Translation: no man can get to God, when man recognizes this and accepts grace apart from ANY works, only then can man truly understand the depths of salvation.
