I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Ran from Nate's down to Turpin's hill, down canal to Gardner Village. Some thorn-hopping but great route. Then uphill back. Great location for Nate.

Run on disc golf course, good stuff.

Got excited about racing, ready to push and see where I'm at. Immediately Nate took off and Devin (?) Moody took a look and realized he was running for 2nd. Nate ran 15:35

I talked with an older guy who was fleet and bouncy and ran ahead. I settled in at the end of a pack of 4 guys running the same pace. 2 loops and finish on the track so I was determined to push up to one guy's back. Bouncy guy was ahead, the first mile seemed to take a while, so I settled in but "The Human Race" (shirt) held good pace. He actually caught bouncy guy on the 2nd loop. With 3/4 mile to go I was keeping up, caught bouncy, and watched HR catch another guy. Into the parking lot and taking stock, hard. Was 20 meters from another guy, hoping to catch him on the track. Nate was helping, telling me to keep form, accelerate thru turn and 40 meters to finish. I pushed it hard and couldn't break 20 but I was happy with my effort. Not too bad, my weight being 192-94. If I were 20 pounds lighter I'd be 2 minutes faster. :-)

4th in 36-45 age group.

God is good, the giver of every good and perfect gift.
